The Donkey Sanctuary

We went to a very special place today. A very special place.

Photobucket

It is called the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada, located in Guelph, Ontario. They rescue abused or neglected donkeys, as well as donkeys who have owners who no longer want them or can no longer care for them. They take these donkeys in and keep them at their wonderful farm.

It is a Donkey Haven.

It is also a place for people to visit and not only enjoy the company of some very sweet donkeys, but to learn about these extraordinary animals.

While you are there, you are permitted to wander through the barn and barn yard, brush the donkeys, tickle them behind the ears, talk to them and love them.

They teach you a few guidelines when you walk in the sanctuary, such as approach a donkey from the side so they can see you, talk so they can hear you, and never ever stand behind a donkey.

They have great volunteers that have a expansive knowledge base, can tell you stories about pretty much each donkey and oooze love for each and every one of them. You can tell they enjoy spending their time at the farm.

Please take the time to look at their website: http://thedonkeysanctuary.dev.openject.com/

Check out the different donkeys and their bios, read about the organization and take a look at the education section with printable information for different age groups.

Pass this website on to other animal lovers. It raises awareness, and that is such an important part of what they do.

I'm going to go dream about donkeys now.

Cheers!
Marina
